As Head of Consumer Credit Risk Strategy, you will report directly to the President and engage with board members to define and develop credit strategy and execute on that strategy with your team (18 – 20 people), the issuing bank, and the in-house data division. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain credit policies as required by our issuing bank, financing partners, and regulatory bodies (for example FDIC, CFPB. FTC, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with credit policies/practices, regulatory policies and prepare, update, and ensure approval of all internal policy and procedure changes, keeping proper change and approval logs 
  • Develop credit strategy for products and customer segments 
    • Communicate and partner with in-house data company to continually develop models to meet the needs of the business 
    • Review model effectiveness and manage deployment including score thresholds, etc. 
    • Identify new underwriting strategies and management scorecards to be developed to optimize performance 
  • Recommend and vet new products initiatives, origination strategies, pre-approval and pre-qualification campaigns, underwriting techniques, peer group comparisons, and process optimization 
  • Monitor assigned lending and/or trading units’ compliance within credit policy and underwriting standards 
  • Assess quality, status and appropriateness or existing risk controls/compliance with established underwriting policies/risk tolerance 
  • Systematize ad hoc reporting to facilitate Board of Director and Executive Management reporting and status updates 
  • Provide independent oversight of all aspects of credit quality of assigned portfolios, including the daily approval process of individual credits and the formal review process of the portfolio 
  • Serve as a strong people leader, including coaching/mentoring, performance management and evaluation and work direction 
  • Identify business opportunities, develop credit tests, and risk strategies, balancing risk and return, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure flawless execution of policy tests and strategies 
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the organization’s reputation and safeguarding the company, its clients and assets 
  • Serve as the primary liaison to Sr. Management and Board of Directors on Credit Standards, Implementation, monitoring and adjustment 

Ideal Background:
  • 12+ years Credit Risk Management including demonstrated success leading a credit portfolio through a variety of economic conditions while balancing risk to achieve business outcomes 
  • Ability to identify needs across a variety of stakeholders and build win-win solutions 
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding/competency in regulatory matters and compliance along with demonstrated track record interacting and influencing regulators, external and internal audit 
  • Demonstrated expertise in Consumer and Banking businesses and applicable rules, regulations, policies, and processes 
  • Strong risk management principles, methodologies and tools, governance principles and activity preferably in a fin-tech services environment 
  • Advanced credit and risk, process, and control validation and/or assessment skills 
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in Accounting, Business, Statistics, Information Systems, Finance or Economics
